Shox   is kind of a weird game. To some extend it tries to be a realistic racer (car models), to the other it is definitly an arcade kind of game (tracks, physics). Anyhow, the ED Sports Big title is all about fun. Race in 4 different classes and try to win the respective trophy. In order to do so you have to unlock cars and make sure you finish every series in first place.

The race tracks are very different from jungle, sand to ice. Every track has different variations, which gives you a total of about 24 tracks. As already mentioned the car physics are not very realistic, but that doesn't really matter as they nicley fit to the overaall game style.

The further you get into the game, the more demanding it becomes. In the beginning it is kind of easy to finish in first place. This becomes a real challenge the further you get into the trophys. Even though you might finish in first place, there is still another challenge for every track: on each track there are socalled shox zones. If you finish those shox zones in a given time you can win gold, silver or bronze medals. If you finish all three shox zones in gold you enable the resp. track during night. If you finish all zones in gold with a specific car you've achieved platinum level which unlocks a special high performance variant of the unlocked cars. To unlock all specials it really takes time and to some extend luck.

The game graphics are nice, given the age of the title but there are of course better looking titles already. nevertheless, the game runs in 60fps without any slowdowns, which is a must for such a fast paced game. The techno tracks are nice but very repetitive. But they nicely fit to the overall experience.

Pros
  • Fun concept
  • Though challenges
  • A lot of unlockables
  • Decent graphics
  • Nice car models
Cons
  • Some challenges are really difficult
  • Most of the textures are very low res
