This weekend trip lead me to Springfield, also known as the hometown of the Simpsons. You can see me here right at the top of a pole looking at the still intact Museum (which is going to change soon) with the waterfront behind. Actually, its pretty interesting that I have this game for a couple of weeks now and haven't played it yet. Even though I am a Simpsons fan I was kind of reluctant to buy the game, already knowing the two other games which were not really matching up with the leagcy of the Simpsons. Anyway, the game was price reduced and therefor I couldn't resist. So for the next 2 month I basically ignored the game until yesterday, when I looked at my collection I finally decided to give it a try. What should I say? Good choice. The game basically centeres around the idea the the Simpsons somehow find out that they are part of a hugh video game (which is the game you are playing) and Bart and the others can't wait to try all those special moves they are able to do as part of the game. While doing that you get confronted with all the clichés of video gaming either due to the theme of the various episodes or through those special cliché trophies which you have to collect while running through the game. The actual game is rather twofold, first there is the city of Spingfield which is all open and there for you to be discovered (hidden items, etc.) and the afore mentioned episodes which can be started at certain locations within the city. What makes that game a good Simpson game is of course the storyline, die dialogs as well as the voiceovers which are coming from the original actors. Unlike other TV adaptions, this game really has the look & feel of the original TV series and is from my point of view a must-have for all Simpson fans. Sure, the different levels or episodes are not really difficult, but that's not the topic of that game at all. This game is really about moving the story forward and about exploring all corners of Springfield. Last but not least, this is one of those rare games with coop mode that basically seemslessly works with the storyline. As a last word, I am pretty much aware that this game gets rather mixed reviews due to its lack of real gameplay. Nevertheless, I like it very much as this game is of course not about high scores and the typical things you have to achieve in other games like that. The Simpsons Game is about exploring the world of the Simpsons and getting more of the humor that this series is known for. P.S. Dont miss out Moetaku and all the other satiric websites linked via the game's hompage Pros - Original look & feel
- A lot to examine
- Coop story mode
- The Simpsons humor
Cons - Not next gen, but who cares
- Not too many episodes
